A Custom Ford Bronco Build Gets Custom-Cut PPF by Carsmotology

Every so often a vehicle rolls into the shop that stops you in your tracks. This custom Ford Bronco was one of them. It was brought to us by Boerne Stage Kustoms, a shop we had heard nothing but amazing things about, and this was one of our first jobs working together. The build was so incredible that we wanted to share the whole story, not just our part in it.

Our job was to add custom-cut paint protection film to the lower areas and door jambs, guarding a finish this nice against rock chips and everyday scratching. Here is how the build came together and how we protected it.

Quick Answer: What Did Carsmotology Do to This Bronco?

Carsmotology installed custom-cut paint protection film on this Boerne Stage Kustoms Bronco build. We covered the lower front fenders, rear quarter panels, and bumpers to stop rock chips, and we wrapped the inner door jambs to prevent scratching when you climb in and out. The film in the jambs was tucked seamlessly so you cannot tell it is there unless you lift the door gasket.

A Ground-Up Build by Boerne Stage Kustoms

Boerne Stage Kustoms built this entire Bronco from the ground up. That means the paint, the body, and the fabrication work all came out of their shop. It is the kind of complete, no-detail-overlooked build that is rare to see, and it is easy to tell how much pride went into every inch of it.

The foundation is a chassis from Kincer Chassis, with a 5.0 and a six-speed pulled out of a 2017 F-150 for modern power and drivability. It is a smart combination that keeps the classic Bronco look while giving it the manners of a much newer truck.

From Primer to Paint

Like every great build, this one spent a lot of time looking rough before it looked right. The body was worked in primer and fitted to the chassis, sitting on its off-road wheels long before any color went on. This is the unglamorous stage where all the real bodywork and fitment happens.

The color came from Axalta paint products, sprayed in the booth at Boerne Stage Kustoms. That deep, metallic burnt-orange is what gives the finished truck so much of its presence, and it is exactly the kind of finish that deserves protection once it is done.

A Custom Interior to Match

The inside of this Bronco is every bit as custom as the outside. Stan Nickel with Nickel Aviation Interiors handled the interior, all the custom work, and the stereo. The result is a cabin with a full roll cage, a body-color dash, and craftsmanship that matches the quality of the exterior build.

The seats are custom tan leather buckets with diamond-quilted inserts, and the orange body color is carried right into the door jambs for a seamless, finished look. That attention to the jambs is exactly why our protection work there had to be just as clean.

The Finished Bronco

Pulled together, the finished truck is a showstopper. The burnt-orange paint carries deep, mirror-like reflections, the stance is aggressive without being over the top, and every detail from the grille to the bumpers has been thought through. Boerne Stage Kustoms also built the bumpers for the truck.

This is the point where our work begins. A finish this good is worth protecting, and that is what we were brought in to do.

Where We Added Custom-Cut PPF

Paint protection film is a clear, durable urethane layer that takes the hits so your paint does not. On a truck like this that people actually want to drive and enjoy, the lower panels are the first to catch rock chips and road debris. That is where we focused.

We applied custom-cut film to the front and back lower areas of the front fenders, the rear quarter panels, and the bumpers. Every piece was custom cut to fit these panels exactly, so the coverage lands where the abuse happens without looking like an afterthought.

Seamless Film in the Door Jambs

The detail we are most proud of on this one is the door jambs. Climbing in and out of a truck is one of the most common ways owners scratch up a fresh finish, so we wrapped the inner jambs to protect them.

The goal was for the protection to be invisible. We made sure to tuck the film into the jambs so it looked completely seamless. You genuinely cannot tell the PPF is there unless you lift up the door gasket and look for the edge. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on a build this nice.

Why This Kind of Protection Matters

A build like this represents a huge investment of time, skill, and money. Custom-cut paint protection film is what keeps that investment looking the way it did the day it was finished. The film guards against the chips, scratches, and road rash that would otherwise start showing up within the first season of driving.

A Shop We Look Forward to Working With

You can tell when a shop takes real pride in its work, and Boerne Stage Kustoms clearly does. They have been building custom cars and trucks in the Texas Hill Country for years, and this Bronco is a perfect example of why they have the reputation they do. We were glad to play a part in protecting it, and we look forward to more projects with them in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas of a vehicle should get paint protection film?

The highest-impact areas are the ones that catch the most rock chips and debris. On this build we protected the lower front fenders, rear quarter panels, and bumpers, plus the inner door jambs. Front-facing panels like the hood, front bumper, and mirrors are also common priority areas on daily-driven vehicles.

Can you put PPF in the door jambs?

Yes. Door jambs are one of the easiest places to scratch a fresh finish when climbing in and out. We wrap the inner jambs with custom-cut film and tuck the edges so the protection is seamless. Done correctly, you cannot see the film unless you lift the door gasket.

Is paint protection film visible once it is installed?

Quality paint protection film is clear and designed to be nearly invisible. When it is custom cut and the edges are tucked properly, it preserves the look of the paint underneath while adding a protective layer that guards against chips and scratches.

Does PPF work on custom and restored vehicles?

Absolutely. Custom builds and restorations are some of the best candidates for PPF because the paint represents a major investment. Protecting the finish keeps that work looking its best and helps preserve the value of the build over time.

Do you install PPF near San Antonio and New Braunfels?

Yes. Carsmotology is based in Boerne and proudly serves Boerne, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. We work on everything from daily drivers to custom builds and exotics.
