1963 Ford Falcon Restomod: Paint Correction & CCi Ceramic Coating in Boerne, TX
Some cars are just fun to be around, and this 1963 Ford Falcon is one of them. The color is gorgeous, every piece of the build fits together perfectly, and the car has a story. Before the Falcon ever reached our shop, the team at Cruzers Customs in New Braunfels had rescued it from what was essentially a corrosion nightmare and resurrected it into a full restomod.
Our job was the last chapter: polish the fresh paint to its full potential and protect it as well as we possibly could before the car headed out to the hot rod shows around Texas.
Quick Answer: How Do You Finish a Freshly Built Restomod?
On this 1963 Ford Falcon we used a two-step paint correction with the Rupes system (D-A Coarse wool pad and compound, then D-A Fine pad and polish), wiped the paint down with CCi Coating Prep to remove polishing oils, and protected it with CCi Revolution ceramic coating before final detailing.
The Build: A 1963 Falcon Brought Back by Cruzers Customs
This is not a stock Falcon. Cruzers Customs packed it with modern performance from end to end:
- Engine: 450 horsepower 5.0 liter Ford Performance Coyote V8
- Transmission: Bowler 4R70W four-speed automatic
- Suspension: Custom RideTech front suspension and a four-link rear
- Brakes and tires: Baer brakes and Michelin tires
- Wheels: Forgeline forged three-piece wheels in 18×5.5 and 18×9.5, with hyper silver diamond-cut centers, polished outers, and polished center caps
With that much craftsmanship under the skin, the paint had to look every bit as good as the parts. That is where we came in.

Step 1: Paint Correction With the Rupes Coarse System
For the first stage of the paint correction, we reached for the Rupes system we love: the Duetto polisher with the Rupes D-A Coarse wool pad and Rupes D-A Coarse compound. This combination has serious cutting power for removing defects while still leaving a surprisingly refined finish.
On a show car, the goal is not to remove as much clear coat as possible. It is to remove the defects you can see under show lights while leaving the paint healthy. We worked panel by panel across the whole car.

Step 2: Refining the Finish With D-A Fine
After the coarse stage, we switched to the Rupes D-A Fine pad and D-A Fine polish for the final polishing step. This is the stage that turns corrected paint into paint with real depth. On a color like this seafoam green, that refining pass is what makes the reflections crisp and the color pop under the lights.
Step 3: CCi Coating Prep Before Ceramic Coating
Polishing leaves oils from the compound and polish behind in the paint. If those oils stay, the coating bonds to them instead of the clear coat. So before coating, we wiped the entire car down with CCi Coating Prep to strip those oils and leave a clean surface for the coating to grab onto.
Step 4: Protecting It With CCi Revolution Ceramic Coating
For protection we used CCi Revolution, a professional-application ceramic coating from Ceramic Coating Inc. that is rated for 6+ years of protection with proper maintenance. It adds a deep, glassy gloss and leaves the paint slick, which makes show-day wipe-downs much easier and helps the finish shrug off dust, bugs, and water spots.

Final Touches and Off to the Texas Hot Rod Shows
Once the coating was on, we finished the little details that make a show car feel complete. Then the Falcon was ready to roll out to the hot rod shows across Texas, looking every bit as good as the work Cruzers put into it.
